A Royal Presentation: Curating the dress collection at Kensington Palace
A talk by Alexandra Kim
From 2008-2012 Alexandra Kim was a Curator of Collections at Kensington Palace which is home to the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection. While at Kensington she worked as the curator on the ambitious Enchanted Palace exhibition, and a range of interpretive projects for the newly reopened Kensington Palace, including commissioning an innovative sculpture for the new entrance. She was also the curator for the 2012 exhibition Jubilee – A view from the crowd, which explored the popular celebration of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
Alexandra read Modem History at Pembroke College, Oxford before studying for an MA in the History of Dress at the Courtauld Institute of Art; London and an MA in Museum Studies at Leicester University. Before moving to Kensington she worked at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, with the dress collection at Chertsey Museum, Surrey and finally at Buckinghamshire County Museum where she was the Keeper of Art, Clothing and Textiles for six and a half years.
Alexandra will talk about her experiences working with the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, enchanting a palace and preparing for the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
