Costume Society of Ontario’s 2013 Annual General Meeting

  The Costume Society of Ontario’s Annual General Meeting will be held Saturday November, 30, 2013 2-4pm at the St Matthew’s Lawn Bowling Club, just off Broadview Avenue.  Come to find out more about the Society’s work over the past year and plans for 2014. Toronto Vintage Clothing Show and Sale March 3rd at Ontario Science Centre

    The Toronto Vintage Clothing and Textile Show and Sale, formerly held at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, is back this year at the Ontario Science Centre on Sunday March 3rd.   Open from 10am to 5pm there will be the opportunity to see and buy a wonderful array of clothing and textiles from vintage designer fashions to quilts, linens and laces.  There’ll also be samplers, sewing related items and jewellery.     Admission is $8.00 (12s and under free).  Partial proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society.  For further information please call or email June C. Winter Sports: A lecture by Rita Brown & Winter Sports: 1900-1950: the exhibition on loan from the Fashion History Museum Saturday, December 10 from 1-2:30 pm, $15.00* per person *This fee includes admission to Ball’s Falls Conservation Area for the entire day, 9:00 am–4:00 pm To purchase tickets please RSVP by December 5 to Nicci Hingley, 902-562-5235  ext. 26. COSTUME JOURNAL Vol. 41, #1 BUMPER ISSUE!

The first 2011 issue of Costume Journal was delivered to members of the Costume Society of Ontario early in May. Anyone interested in current events, exhibitions and resources dealing with the wide spectrum of aspects of the field of costume will find this a persuasive reason to join the CSO!  Illustrations, colour and black & white, liven outside and inside covers and many of the forty inside pages. One article gives us a satisfying revelation of features of Palestinian and Jordanian dress with a close look at textiles and jewelry at the Jordan Museum of Popular Tradition. The author, Leslie Montgomery, passes on a rich taste of the regional distinctions, especially in the style and stitching of embroidery.  The Jordan Craft Development Centre in the capital city Amman was also a revelation, and Leslie cites contacts and publications for additional information.
