TAMBOUR LACE WORKSHOP

St. Marys Museum offers a 3-day workshop in Lier (Tambour) Lace given by Greet Rome-Verbeylen, author, designer and teacher of Lier lace from  Lier, Belgium.  This will run July 6, 7 and 8, 2009, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, for up to 12 students. This will be 18 hours of class time, some spent studying examples of the tambour work (chain-stitched lace) of Margaret Weir, a Scottish immigrant and lacemaker in the late 1800s, to keep her designs and filling stitches alive in contemporary lacemaking.

Students will also be learning to make this lace in the house once owned by Margaret that is now St. Marys Museum, the workshop venue. The fee is $180.00, and a supply kit is available if required, at extra cost, payable in class.

For a form, supply list and more information, contact Pam Glew, pamglew@rogers.com; (519) 675-9765. Registration has already started. St. Marys Museum, 177 Church Street South, (Cadzow Park), St. Marys, ON, N6A 1X6.
