WEEKEND WITH JANE AUSTEN April 20–22, 2012, Toronto

A weekend with Jane Austen will be presented 20–22 April 2012 by JaneAustenDancing. It will feature a combination of workshops, lectures and social events on the theme of ordinary life in Austen’s world.

The event will open Friday 20 April with an evening at Historic Fort York and will feature a lamplight tour of the Regency-era Fort, a dance demonstration, fashion show and supper. Tea, coffee and desserts made by the marvellous Fort York volunteer cooks will also be served.

Saturday’s program (21 April) at St. Barnabas Anglican Church on the Danforth, will feature lectures, workshops, a carefully chosen selection of Regency-related books and a modest Jane Austen shop (details on the website listed below). The afternoon will conclude with a pre-ball English Country Dance workshop suitable for beginners and experienced dancers alike, and the evening will feature a ball with decorations, live music and elegant refreshments.

Sunday’s entertainment (22 April) will take place at Montgomery’s Inn, a late-Georgian coaching inn in Toronto’s west end. The program will include Regency food and table games, a tour of the inn, a talk on Regency underwear, another on historical lace-making, tea and a concert of music from Austen’s personal collection.
