The Toronto Vintage Clothing and Textile Show and Sale, formerly held at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, is back this year at the Ontario Science Centre on Sunday March 3rd. Open from 10am to 5pm there will be the opportunity to see and buy a wonderful array of clothing and textiles from vintage designer fashions to quilts, linens and laces. A Cultural History of the Nurse’s Uniform by Christina Bates is the first and only in-depth analysis of the attire worn by the largest workforce in the health care system. The book explores the role of the nurse’s uniform in creating nursing identity for over a hundred years. Christina is the curator for the History of Canadian Home Life at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Her work on nursing began in 1999, with the creation of the Canadian Nursing History Collection. The Joseph Brant Museum is pleased to welcome Fashion History Museum curator Jonathan Walford on Thursday, February 28 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss his traveling exhibition, “Nuclear Fashion: Selling Style to Suburbia 1946-1964”. BIG is mounted in the Patricia Harris Gallery of Costume and Textiles at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) on Level 4 in the Museum’s Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. As the winter holiday season is upon us I would like to send wishes for a belated Happy Chanukah and a Merry Christmas to the members of the Costume Society of Ontario.
