Connecting Art, Design and Fashion – new course at the ROM

      Dawna Pym, who works in the education department of the Royal Ontario Museum and is Secretary of the Costume Society of Ontario, is running a new course at the ROM this fall.  Discover the differences between fine and decorative arts and explore fashion’s links to Rococo, Classical, Aesthetic and the Art Nouveau movements. Living in the Field – The War of 1812 at Dundurn Castle

The latest iteration of the travelling War of 1812 exhibit, developed and curated by CSO Chair Paul Federico, is now open at the Coach House Gallery at Dundurn Castle in Hamilton. Hours are 11 am to 4 pm every day but Mondays. Uniforms, accoutrements and equipage of the period of conflict are on display.   The latest elegant and fascinating issue of the Costume Journal, Volume 43, Number 1 has just been printed. The Journal has been redesigned by the Journal’s new editor Ingrid Mida with the assistance of intern Jazmin Welch, and includes articles by members Alexandra Kim, Julia Pine, Jenifer Forest and Ashley Sivil. Three clothing historians will join other Regency period experts for the Spencerville Heritage Fair, June 21-23. The authors of Napoleon & The Empire of Fashion (1795-1815) will travel from England to offer two workshops on period clothing. New Museum of Costume and Textiles in Montreal

A Royal Presentation:  Curating the dress collection at Kensington Palace   Saturday, April 13th 2013, 1:30pm at the Textile Museum of Canada, Toronto A talk by Alexandra Kim From 2008-2012 Alexandra Kim was a Curator of Collections at Kensington Palace which is home to the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection.  While at Kensington she worked as the curator on the ambitious Enchanted Palace exhibition, and a range of interpretive projects for the newly reopened Kensington Palace, including commissioning an innovative sculpture for the new entrance.  She was also the curator for the 2012 exhibition Jubilee – A view from the crowd, which explored the popular celebration of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.  Alexandra read...
