Dr. Michael Gervers is a medieval and art historian at the University of Toronto. His current interest is the Orthodox Christian rock-cut and monolithic churches found in Ethiopia. His presentation will focus on the great card-woven church hangings with particular reference to the so-called Gondar hanging, a ROM treasure. It was made in the early 18th century and depicts the coronation of an Ethiopian king.
