TEXTILE MOUNTING SYSTEMS NEWS OCT. 26

The CSO will be hosting: “Keeping It Up: Developments in Textile Mounting Systems at the Royal Ontario Museum” on October 26th.  Karla Livingston and Kristiina Lahde, both Collection Technicians in the Textile and Costume Section at the ROM, will be giving a presentation about the challenges for conservation, display and design which they encounter in their jobs. They work with pressures of limited time, resources, and a high volume of materials to “keep it up.” The presentation will be at Spadina Museum, 285 Spadina Road, and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission $10.00. “Costume On Stage… From the Ethereal Ideal – To A Design on Paper – To The Costume on the Stage” – is an  upcoming session from the Friends of Costume and Textiles at the ROM on Saturday, September 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..  There will be presentations by Marshall Pynkoski – Co-founder and Co-director of Opera Atelier, Martha Mann – Noted Costume Designer for theatre, opera and film and Rita Brown – Costumer/Cutter at the Shaw Festival and Papier à la Mode collaborator.  In “Costume in Motion,” Dancers of Opera Atelier will also be featured. NEW COSTUME EXHIBIT AT JOSEPH BRANT MUSEUM

The Crazy Years: The Fashion Renaissance of the Roaring 1920s The Joseph Brant Museum is excited to announce the opening of its new costume exhibition, The Crazy Years: The Fashion Renaissance of the Roaring 1920s.  Enjoy spectacular examples of 1920s fashion while learning about the social and cultural changes that were occurring at the same time. The exhibition features several dresses from the Eileen Collard Costume Collection, as well as hats, shoes, purses and other accessories popular at that time.  A media component showcases images and music from the era, visually highlighting a decade recovering from the First World War and embracing  a new-found freedom and attitude that included  the women’s rights movement, the jazz era and the influence of Black Culture.
